Report about the Great North Epping Art Trail

Art on the Go

‘The Great North Epping Art Trail’

A calling for all young artists out there in North Epping...

As part of my launch of Kates Art Corner Online I am very excited to announce The Great North Epping Art Trail! This will be a walking exhibition of art, made by you - the talented little artists of North Epping. All skill levels welcome, any age, any artwork.

Here’s how it works:

You can register through me (Kate’s art corner) by submitting a picture of your favourite artwork and your address via text or email. I will then put all the entries into the online gallery and mark them on a map of North Epping. On the MORNING of the 23rd of May, the children who have submitted a work will display it in their front garden or window so it can be viewed from the street. The rest of the community and the participants will get the map with all the entries locations, which can be picked up from the central location of the shops (Ill Posto and Roma Vino) at any time between 10am- 2pm (will stagger times for social distancing) They then use the map to walk around the streets of North Epping, locating the artworks. A bit like a bear hunt but with art!

There will be awards and prizes and three amazing guest judges to award them:

*Monty Boori Pryor: public figure, Storyteller, Emmy nominated producer, Author.

*Robyn Williams: Owner and curator of Purple Noon Gallery.

The day was really wonderful with lots of people collecting the map for the walk and everyone going above and beyond with their displays of their work outside their home on in their windows.

There was a young, aspiring artist called Jesse, 14 years old, who did a live demonstration of his work. It was amazing, he used spray paint and fire to create amazing atmospheric space like images. It was amazing to watch and he was so gracious and kind to all those who came to watch. All of this can be seen on the Facebook North Epping Community Page. I also had some amazing parent volunteers who not only helped with signs for the advertising and letter box dropping but also helped with the organisation of the event. I’d particularly like to mention Taryn Bloom and Alison Lloyd.

Alison and her family not only entered the competition but also created ‘Calvin the colourist’ - an amazing sculpture of an animal made out of found objects that was left outside Roma Vino and Ill Posto for the days leading up to the hunt for children to add too. It became the centre piece on the day!

I awarded the Lloyd family a $50 Voucher for Kate’s Art Corner online for their beautiful work and amazing contributions.
